On 5 March 2016 Alternator Studio presented Translating the Street, a collection of works by Haleh Jamali, Harold Offeh and Jeff Young. The work was centred around the remaining shops on Oxton and Borough Road in Birkenhead. I had the pleasure to produce the postcard (above and below) to correspond with Jeff Young’s piece, ‘A552 Hex’ which was performed in the Alternator Studio.
Jeff’s piece was based on Frank Cavanagh’s Shoe Repairs which is the only remaining open shop in a row of otherwise derelict Victorian shops. The shop can just about be seen on the right hand side of the above photograph, the left hand side has been knocked down and the trams have been replaced by the A552.
